The Surveillance Architecture Of Long Beach

This project was inspired by the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Atlas of Surveillance—a collaborative effort to create the largest-ever repository of information on law enforcement agencies surveillance technologies through crowdsourcing and data journalism. Their aim is to generate a resource for journalists, academics, and, most importantly, members of the public to check what’s been purchased locally and how technologies are spreading across the country.

CheckLBPD is researching the LBPD's surveillance technologies using the California Public Records Act and has already made some interesting discoveries. One exciting area of research you should check out is our investigation of the LBPD's Facial Recognition Program.
